Novum Interdum July 12 Saints Veronica of the Veil, John Walbert (Giovanni Gualberto), Andrew Oexner of Rinne, Martyr, Lucius of Cavargna, Martyr, & others. St. Veronica was a Jewess with the Greek name Beronika, or Berenice, as it is most usually transcribed into English. She was present at the Way of the Cross, when our Lord God Jesus Christ, in His human form, was led, carrying His cross, from the Fortress of Antonia in Jerusalem, to Golgatha, where He was crucified, murdered. She wiped His bloodied face with her veil, on which His face was found imprinted, it is the relic called the Veil of St. Veronica. St. John Walbert was an Italian noble. After his only brother Hugh was murdered, he, & his friends, searched out for the murderer, to kill him in retaliation. Finding the murderer in a narrow lane on Good Friday, he spread his hands in the form of the cross, reminding John that that day was the day of Jesus' murder, ...
